A recent shooting in the City Heights area of San Diego has culminated in the arrest of a 72-year-old man, following an investigation into the death of Mark Edward Tome, a 52-year-old believed to be homeless. As reported by the San Diego Police Department, the incident occurred last Tuesday, close to midnight, when officers found Tome in an alley, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite transportation to a nearby hospital, Tome succumbed to his injuries.
Tome's identity was disclosed after authorities notified his next of kin, yielding his identification as a resident. The police department was led to Keith Rose, the suspect living across from the scene of the crime, after a different person of interest had been released pending further investigation. Noteworthily, gunshots flagged down San Diego Police officers close to 11:55 PM, in the vicinity of 43rd Street and Polk Avenue, as they learned of an altercation involving Tome before the shooting.
The City Heights community has been grappling with the aftermath of the violent incident, and local authorities are continuing their appeal for more information. Anyone knowledgeable about the case is encouraged to contact the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Hoodline reported an altercation preceding the gunfire, involving the victim and another individual, an aspect corroborated in the police's press release.
