A tragic turn of events unfolded yesterday on a familiar stretch of McHenry road when two vehicles collided head-on, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. At approximately 11:15 a.m., in the 2500 block of Ringwood Road, south of Martin Road, emergency responders, including McHenry Police Department and McHenry Fire Protection District rushed to the scene where the aftermath of the crash awaited them.
Details provided by the sheriff's office indicated a northbound 2020 Ford Explorer met with a 2013 Toyota Highlander, which, for reasons not yet clear, had veered into the opposing lane. Occupying the Highlander was its driver, a 77-year-old man from McHenry who tragically succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to Northwestern Hospital in McHenry.
The other vehicle was not alone, carrying a 32-year-old woman from Wonder Lake and two juvenile children, all of whom sustained non-life-threatening injuries. They, too, were transported to Northwestern Hospital for treatment.
Investigative efforts to piece together the moments leading up to the crash are ongoing, spearheaded by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
