Arizona’s population has grown to 7.6 million residents, especially in the Valley. Residents notice this growth in daily life, such as increased traffic. Jessica Hayes, a North Phoenix mom, said, "I came from a small community," and "So I appreciate a small community, but it's added different life experiences with people, so I think it's super positive," according to ABC15.
The growing population in Arizona brings challenges. Bryan Curry from North Phoenix said, "I remember when it was a lot less packed," as reported by ABC15. Between July 2023 and July 2024, the state added 96,600 residents. The Eller College of Management notes this growth came from a small natural increase of births over deaths and a net migration of 87,400 people.
Arizona’s economy remains steady despite concerns about rising costs and changes in the state. A report from Eller College of Management shows personal income growth has slowed but is keeping pace with the national average. The state’s unemployment rate is 3.6%. Job growth reached 2.1%, higher than the national rate, with increases in private education, health services, and transportation.
Job growth in Arizona is uneven, with declines in the information, manufacturing, and leisure and hospitality sectors. The forecast expects growth to continue at a slower pace due to higher interest rates and demographic pressures. A pessimistic scenario points to tighter financial conditions, while an optimistic one projects stronger growth than currently expected.
