In a move aimed at streamlining efforts to tackle social issues within Maricopa County, Avondale Councilmember Tina Conde has been appointed to the Maricopa Association of Governments' (MAG) new Community Initiatives Coordinating Committee. The committee, which replaces the Human Services and Community Initiatives Committee and the Regional Domestic Violence Council, will provide direction and oversight of regional human services planning. Conde's appointment was confirmed during the MAG Regional Council's June meeting, as reported by the City of Avondale.
The Community Initiatives Coordinating Committee is tasked with addressing an array of strategic challenges facing the area, including homelessness, domestic violence, and the needs of aging populations. "Avondale has long been a champion for partnerships that improve the quality of life for our residents, and I look forward to working with colleagues across the Valley to deliver results that make a difference," Conde stated, according to a news release from the City of Avondale.
Up to 21 members, drawn from various jurisdictions and organizations across the region, will form the committee. Each member is expected to contribute their unique insights and expertise as they coordinate to push forward human services initiatives. Avondale Councilmember Conde, who has served since 2017, has been deeply involved in efforts supporting youth, families, and vulnerable populations. Her six years on MAG’s Human Services and Community Initiative Committee provide valuable experience for her new role on the Community Initiatives Coordinating Committee.
