The Avondale Police Department has stepped into modernity with the grand opening of its upgraded Dispatch Communications Center, as reported by city officials. The ribbon-cutting event, which took place on September 2, introduced a more spacious and technologically advanced nerve center for emergency responses in the growing city of Avondale, Arizona. Attendees included the city's council members, city management staff, police department personnel, and locals interested in the project's completion.
Chief of Police Memo Espinoza heralded the new facility as a testament to the city's commitment to public safety and community service, telling the attendees, “The Avondale Police Department is proud to announce a state-of-the-art, brand-new Avondale Police Communication Dispatch Center to help our staff thrive in their workplace by providing them with the newest innovative technology, creating an enjoyable atmosphere, while proudly serving our community,” as mentioned on the City of Avondale. The renovations feature a significant expansion by 45 percent of the former space, accommodating more workstations and a training room dedicated to refining the skills of new recruits before they face the live operations environment.
These improvements are not only structural but offer support for the well-being of the staff with a new nursing and respite room included in the design; it's a nod to the mental wellness and parenting needs that may arise during the stress of emergency dispatch work. Communications Manager Angela Destin expressed her optimism about the changes as well, stating, “Our dispatchers are dedicated to getting help to those in need as quickly as possible. With the new space, we will be able to fully utilize updated technologies and training facilities, ensuring we exceed expectations and continue serving our community at the highest level,” as per the City of Avondale.
The expansion not only introduced ten workstations from the previous six but also added six more seats for supervisory roles, three new offices and a dedicated locker room and it didn't forget practicality with the inclusion of a kitchen and a bathroom to safeguard operations even in power outages or evacuations. The project, which cost over $4.5 million, represents a partnership between Core Construction and Arrington Watkins Architects for the structural work on the 2,288-square-foot extension.
