Avondale is set to embrace its roots with Billy Moore Days, a festival charged with tradition and community spirit, slated for mid-October. As reported by the City of Avondale's news release, the annual bash celebrates the city's foundation and honors the past through a multi-day event. Festival Fields Park on Lower Buckeye Road will play host to the gathering, from October 16 to October 19.
The highlight of Billy Moore Days is undoubtedly the carnival. It's packed with rides and food options bound to keep families entertained. Thursday through Sunday will each have different operating hours for the carnival, ensuring that everyone has a chance to fully immerse themselves. For those looking to save a bit of cash, the festival is offering wristbands priced at $17 in advance, although they'll be $20 if you purchase them on-site. The catch - they're only valid during specific hours, and if you want to go all out, there's a Mega Pass for $100 that offers unlimited ride access throughout the festival. But you'll need to act quickly to snag that deal as it's an online exclusive that ends October 16 at 4 p.m.
Apart from the high-flying rides, the festival, running from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, is free to all visitors. The lineup includes diverse activities - think crafts, pony rides, archery, and even a beer garden benefiting the Agua Fria Food and Clothing Bank. Music lovers, get ready; live bands are on the playbill, poised to bring the dance floor to life. New this year are the Monster Smash Softball Tournament and the Agua Fria Food and Clothing Bank Cornhole Tournament. The latter is open for team registration via Scoreholio, as mentioned in the city's news release.
The storied Billy Moore Days Parade is set to march down Central and Western Avenues come Saturday morning. This slice of Americana will start at 9 a.m., featuring floats, bands, and local groups highlighting Avondale’s culture. Finding parking shouldn't break a sweat with Festival Fields Park and Mountain View Park both available for public use. And if you're not up for the drive, grab a free ride via the WeRIDE app using the promo code Billy2025. Just keep in mind, road closures will be in effect from the early morning until noon in Old Town, so plan to get around accordingly.
