Earlier today, the streets of Brooklyn Park were host to a standoff situation that brought out the big guns, as the BPPD SWAT team and negotiators were dispatched to a residence on the 6300 block of Boone Ave N. According to a Brooklyn Park Police Department public safety alert, at around 10:00 am, officers responded to a disturbance call involving a male individual who had been making threats to his neighbors.
In what became an hours-long negotiation that eventually ceased without a peaceful resolution, the BPPD SWAT was called due to previous interactions with the male, who had a history known to officers, which anticipated the potential for an escalated threat level. The scene intensified, with the standoff culminating in the deployment of non-lethal munitions after talks fell through, efforts to bring the man in without resorting to these measures having been unsuccessful.
Following the standoff, the man was taken into custody while exposed to chemical irritants, necessitating medical attention at HCMC before he could be processed further. His hospital trip wasn't the end of his journey, however, as the next stop for him will be the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center, where he will face charges for his terroristic threats, once he receives the medical all-clear.
