
A shootout in Calumet City led to police opening fire and the arrest of one individual on Tuesday evening. According to reports from WGN-TV, the Calumet City police were summoned to the 400 block of Buffalo Avenue around 7:00 p.m. following a 911 call that reported a large fight and the sound of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found themselves amidst an ongoing gun battle.
As the situation escalated, police encountered multiple individuals actively exchanging gunfire. While attempting to neutralize the threat, officers came across a man in an alley, armed and unyielding to their commands to disarm. Police stated that "officers told the suspect to drop the gun, but police say they did not comply and instead turned toward the officers, at which time the officers opened fire." Despite the tensions running high and weapons being discharged, there were no reported injuries from the incident.
In the chaotic aftermath, two suspects fled the scene, with one being apprehended shortly thereafter. The Fox 32 Chicago reports confirmed the recovery of two firearms. The authorities have described the occurrence as an "isolated" incident and assure the public that there is no immediate threat in the wake of the disturbance.
The police are actively seeking any additional information or video footage that could shed light on the events that transpired. "Anyone with information or video footage is asked to call Calumet City police at (708) 868-2500," as per the statements obtained by Fox 32 Chicago. Those who know about the incident are encouraged to come forward to assist in the investigation of this serious altercation. While this neighborhood was the site of a violent altercation, officers claim the area faces no residual danger.
