The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert following a series of armed robberies in the South Shore neighborhood. These incidents, which took place on the morning of Sunday, involved an assailant using a white Nissan sedan to approach victims before committing the robberies. Police have detailed the events occurring within close timing of each other; one at 7:05 AM on the 7400 Block of S. South Shore Drive, another at 7:25 a.m.on the 6700 Block of South Oglesby Avenue, and the last at 8:10 AM on the 6000 block of South Lake Shore Dr.
The suspect, described as an African American male between the ages of 19 and 21, standing at a height of 5'4"-5'6", was seen wearing a grey mask and grey clothing at the time of the robberies. He was armed with a rifle. The Chicago Police Department urges community members to stay vigilant, promptly report any suspicious activities, and not engage with the assailant, but instead to focus on noting any distinct physical traits that could aid in identification.
The safety and security of Chicago citizens are of paramount concern, and thus, the CPD is reaching out with several recommendations. Locals are advised to always be observant of their surroundings, avoid pursuit of any fleeing suspects, and to preserve any video evidence if available.
