The dog, identified as Faroe, had been missing since Saturday morning, according to the dog's owner, Brandon Hilliard. Faroe’s plight gained immediate attention after Hilliard came across the rescue operation on a public safety app. Hilliard’s sister managed to get in touch with the police to report that Faroe belonged to her brother, CBS Chicago noted. Hilliard subsequently joined the Marine Unit on their police boat en route to the scene.
Police described Faroe as appearing nervous during the rescue attempt. Nevertheless, she was coaxed out of the drainpipe by her familiar squeaky toy, which was used by a Marine Unit diver, as WGN-TV reports.
