The City of Franklin is looking for a community-minded individual with a passion for preservation to join its Historic Zoning Commission (HZC). This critical body plays a key role in maintaining Franklin's cherished landmarks' architectural integrity and historical significance.
According to a social media post from the City of Franklin Municipal Government, the commission seeks someone ready to dedicate themselves to a five-year tenure. The commitment includes attending two monthly meetings and the occasional need to convene for special sessions. To truly resonate with the city's vision, applicants should reside within city limits, and those inhabiting the Historic Preservation Overlay (HPO) zone will be met with particular interest.
Commission members are at the helm of safeguarding Franklin's historic districts, overseeing everything from new constructions to demolition requests. The HZC is a guardian of the community's past, ensuring that progress does not come at the cost of losing the distinctive character that gives Franklin its sense of place and history.
