Last Thursday, the City of Clarksville embraced a new chapter in financial leadership as Christen Wilcox was appointed to helm the role of Chief Financial Officer. The council greenlit her nomination during their monthly Regular Session, based upon her reputable background and her transformative work as Deputy CFO since November 2020.
Wilcox, who was promptly sworn in by Mayor Joe Pitts moments after the confirmation and was joined by her husband, Mike Wilcox, has been a fixture in the corridors of Clarksville's fiscal governance for some time. According to the City of Clarksville, Mayor Pitts extolled her capacity to elevate the city's financial stability: "Since assuming the position as Deputy Chief Financial Officer in 2020, Christen has earned the respect of her colleagues, and been a major influence in keeping our City fiscally sound, and financially secure year after year."
The new CFO, who holds not just a CPA, but also CPFO and CMFO designations, will now be at the forefront of the Finance & Revenue Department. Ms. Wilcox, in an address to the council, underscored her anticipation to work alongside the council members to further the city's fiscal success.
"She looks forward to working with them toward achieving common goals of moving the City forward in a fiscally-responsible manner," Ms. Wilcox told the council on Thursday, as per the official statement. Her career, with roots stretching back to 2002, is a testament to her longstanding commitment to the field. Mayor Pitts cited her education and dedication to transparency and process improvements as critical factors leading to her new assignment.
Having started in local government as a Senior Accountant, and with a track record spanning over two decades, Wilcox's journey reflects an unwavering commitment to public service. A proud alumna of Arizona State University, her mastery over fiscal policy and budget management is expected to benefit Clarksville, Tennessee's fifth-largest city, in stewarding resources to align with its community priorities.
