A special election for the vacant House District 34B seat will take place on Tuesday, September 16, with absentee voting already underway.
The North Metro Mayors Association and MetroNorth Chamber are hosting a candidate forum to give residents the opportunity to hear directly from those seeking the seat. According to an announcement on the City of Coon Rapids website, the public is invited to attend the forum, ask questions, and learn more about the candidates’ platforms.
Absentee voting is currently available for voters who cannot cast their ballots in person on September 16. This option provides flexibility for residents who may be out of town, unavailable on Election Day, or who prefer to vote early.
For those voting in person, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, per the city’s announcement. The 13-hour window is intended to accommodate residents’ varying schedules.
The candidate forum, organized by the North Metro Mayors Association and MetroNorth Chamber, is designed to provide transparency in the election process by allowing voters to engage directly with the individuals running for office. By hearing each candidate outline their positions, residents will have more information to make their decisions when casting their ballots.
The House District 34B special election will determine who will fill the vacant seat and represent the Coon Rapids community in the state legislature. The event and absentee voting period are intended to ensure broad participation and to give residents multiple opportunities to take part in the process.
