According to the release, officials stated, "DHS is launching Operation Midway Blitz in honor of Katie Abraham who was killed in Illinois by a criminal illegal alien who should have never been in our country. This operation will target the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens in Chicago." Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin condemned Illinois Governor Pritzker and sanctuary city policies for contributing to the release and protection of criminals, including gang members and drug traffickers. In a claim sourced from DHS’s announcement, President Trump and Secretary Noem were cited for their unwavering stance against sanctuary cities and the threat of recidivism by undocumented criminal offenders.
The targeted individuals in this operation include several with grievous criminal records, revealed the DHS. The campaign further focuses on egregious cases such as Dany Daniel Hernandez Colina, a Venezuelan gang member, who was freed subsequent to Cook County Jail's failure to honor an ICE detainer, even after an immigration judge had mandated removal.
