A fatal stabbing at the Golden West Hotel has grabbed headlines in San Diego after a dispute escalated into violence, ending the life of 38-year-old Black male Daniel Stanley. The incident, which occurred in downtown's Gaslamp Quarter, was reported to the San Diego Police Department on Wednesday at approximately 6:58 PM, as indicated in a press release from the San Diego Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim had been stabbed on the hotel's second floor. They immediately began administering life-saving measures before San Diego Fire-Rescue paramedics took over. Despite their efforts, Stanley was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital. The suspect, 44-year-old Hispanic male Rene Lunar, reportedly fled the scene only to call police dispatch shortly afterwards to turn himself in voluntarily. He was arrested without further incident on the 1500 block of India Street in San Diego, as confirmed in a Hoodline report.
