A tragic turn of events unfolded in Pinewood last week when a hit-and-run incident claimed the life of 63-year-old bicyclist, Gregory Hughes. According to Local 10, Hughes was struck by a vehicle while cycling and was pronounced dead at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. The driver, identified by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office as Michelson Jeancy, aged 45, was arrested following a detailed investigation.
The accident took place around 11:20 p.m. last Monday, August 25, as Hughes was leaving a Mobil gas station near Northwest 103rd Street and Northwest 12th Avenue, after which he was hit from behind by a 2013 Honda Civic, further reports detailed, Jeancy fled the scene without rendering aid to the victim or contacting emergency services detectives managed to locate the suspected vehicle at Jeancy's residence in Miami, where the car displayed front-end damage consistent with the collision.
As reported by NBC Miami, Jeancy provided a statement to authorities and was subsequently charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and tampering with physical evidence, according to jail records. Surveillance footage from the vicinity played a crucial role in piecing together the events of that ill-fated night.
In the court proceedings that followed Jeancy was appointed a public defender and his bond was set at $20,000, multiple cameras captured the moment the incident occurred which solidified the link between the damaged Honda Civic and the crime scene arrest statements suggest Jeancy confessed to the act before he was taken into custody, although the content of said confession was not disclosed in publicly available reports.
