A Duluth man was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly made threats of violence towards a local elementary school. Duluth Police took action after receiving a report around 6 p.m. that a male had threatened to shoot the windows of Laura MacArthur Elementary School.
The swift response saw officers heading to the suspect's residence on the 5500 block of West 6th Street, where they apprehended 72-year-old Richard Neault on pending Threats of Violence charges, according to a Duluth Police Department release. In course of the investigation, officers executed a search warrant at his home, where a shotgun and an SKS Assault Rifle, along with various ammunition, were seized.
The police action has been commended for its efficiency in ensuring the safety of students and staff at the school. The Duluth Police Department's C crew was highlighted for their prompt apprehension of Neault, a move that likely averted a potential crisis.
