Yesterday, a tragic incident occurred on Carlsbad Blvd when a vehicle collided with a bicyclist, leading to the cyclist's death. The City of Carlsbad Police Department has stated that at approximately 4:34 AM, officers arrived at the 4400 block to assess the situation, but unfortunately, the bicyclist was found deceased upon their arrival.
With support from the local community, license plate readers, and a drone, the police managed to locate the driver of the involved vehicle about a mile from the collision site, where the aftermath rendered Carlsbad Blvd closed for investigation, between Tamarack Ave and Cannon Rd. The driver has been identified as 27-year-old Alexander Gendron of Escondido, and he faces charges including leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury or death, DUI causing injury or death, and vehicular manslaughter.
The official identification of the victim is still pending and is expected to be released by the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office at a later date. As the investigation carries on, alcohol is being considered as a possible factor in the causation of the fatal event, with authorities piecing together the moments that culminated in such a grim outcome.
