Fort Lauderdale drivers are advised to avoid Barbara Drive between South Ocean Drive and SE 25th Avenue, as the roadway will be closed for the next several weeks. Starting on Monday, September 22, traffic along this stretch will be shut down to allow for the installation of a new sewer lateral connection. This closure is scheduled to be in effect from 8 AM to 5 PM daily and will be a continuous restriction during these working hours.
According to an advisory by the City of Fort Lauderdale, the road will not open back up until Thursday, October 2. The closure is expected to last more than a week, with detours likely to cause traffic delays. Drivers will be rerouted via South Ocean Drive, SE 21st Street, and SE 25th Avenue.
Motorists are urged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use caution when following detour routes. Local businesses and residents should anticipate heavier traffic along alternate roads. Crews remind drivers to heed construction signs and watch for workers during the closure. Once work is complete, Barbara Drive will reopen to regular traffic.
