PortMiami witnessed the unexpected return of Royal Caribbean's flagship, the Wonder of the Seas, yesterday after a report of an onboard altercation left guests injured. As detailed by Local 10, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units arrived on the scene following an emergency medical call at the 1000 block of North America Way, adjacent to the port's location.
A representative for Royal Caribbean Group conveyed to media, "Our team provided medical care to adult guests who were involved in an altercation onboard, and the guests are being treated for their injuries." Not surpringly, local authorities have been brought into the fold to investigate the incident. Given the ongoing nature of this investigation, the spokesperson added, “We notified local authorities and are working closely with them. As this is an ongoing investigation, we have no more information to share at this time,” as noted by Local 10.
Footage from the scene captured by 7News illustrated a number of officers and first responders awaiting the cruise's return. Following the ship's docking, two passengers were swiftly transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital for further assessment and care. The circumstances surrounding the conflict that took place on the Wonder of the Seas remain unclear, with limited details available to the public.
Onboard witnesses described a chaotic scene, with passengers rushing towards the pool area and the children’s pool subsequently cordoned off. The decision to return to port was attributed to the need to hospitalize at least one of the injured guests. While the cruise line works in tandem with authorities, the gravity of the individuals' injuries and the events leading up to the altercation continue to be under review.
