
Wilmer Antonio Garcia-Aquino, a 43-year-old from Honduras, was sentenced to three months in prison for illegally reentering the United States. After completing his sentence, he will serve three years of supervised release and must pay a $100 special assessment. The sentence was issued by U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Garcia-Aquino was sentenced for violating U.S. immigration law under Title 8, Sections 1326(a) and 1326(b)(1). After completing his prison term, he will be transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings. The case was investigated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Irene González of the General Crimes Unit. Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson recognized the agencies involved, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
"Garcia-Aquino was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk to 3 months imprisonment, 3 years of supervised release upon release from imprisonment, and payment of a mandatory $100 special assessment fee," the U.S. Attorney's Office stated. His sentence also includes transfer to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody for removal proceedings.
