Small businesses in downtown Johnson City are receiving a noticeable boost thanks to the newly introduced micro-grant program by Connect Downtown. The Main Street advisory board has tapped 13 local businesses as beneficiaries of its initial grant offering, distributing just over $30,000 to support a variety of projects aimed at enhancing the downtown area.
From the pool of 41 applicants, grants were allocated to projects ranging from storefront enhancements to marketing initiatives. The awards, which varied in amount from $500 to $4,000, were determined based on each project's potential impact on the community and its scope. Lindsey Jones, Main Street Director, expressed her outlook on the initiative, "This program is about investing in our downtown entrepreneurs and giving them the tools to continue shaping downtown Johnson City into a prosperous community,” she articulated, highlighting the dual benefit to the specific ventures and the broader downtown district.
The businesses that received grants include, but are not limited to, Artisans Village, which was awarded $650, Aura Optical, which snagged $3,900, and The Bush House, with a full $4,000 backing. Others, like the Downtown Yoga Center and the Hairgeek Studio, are to receive $1,836.90 and $3,735.00, respectively, while Johnson City Brewing Company was granted $2,850 for their outlined plans. The complete list of grantees reflects a diverse array of businesses, all positioned to leverage these funds toward their growth and, by extension, the vibrancy of downtown Johnson City.
Anticipation is high within the community as these local businesses begin to deploy their grant money towards their envisioned improvements. Jones conveyed her enthusiasm, “We are excited to see how these businesses will use the money to build on the momentum downtown and improve our community," she remarked. This round of funding represents just the beginning of Connect Downtown's plans to foster an environment where businesses can thrive, and the downtown space can continually redefine its appeal.
