Heads up, art lovers and culture seekers of Las Cruces, October is officially the month to celebrate local public art, with a city-wide proclamation setting the stage for a series of events designed to foster appreciation for the vibrant creative community in the area. According to the City of Las Cruces, the entire month is dedicated to showcasing how artistic expression weaves into the quality of life and cultural tapestry of the city.
Kicking off the artful October festivities, residents and visitors can partake in the "Curators of the Lost Art Scavenger Hunt," an engaging event that promises a mix of exploration, discovery and the chance to win prizes, culminating in a drawing for the Art of the Covenant grand prize, as per details front and center on the city's Public Art page and offering a month-long opportunity to connect with the city's creative pulse, while participants delve into a treasure trove of local art hidden in plain sight throughout the community. The Librarian Council (CAB) and the Quality of Life/Public Art sector of Las Cruces are rolling out a collection of events that effectively highlight this very ethos of artistic consciousness.
The diverse slate of activities includes an enriching artist talk on October 3rd at La Placita Downtown titled "Earth and Cosmos," featuring Glenn Schwaiger discussing his exquisite mosaic walkway, a fixture in the heart of downtown Las Cruces. Another notable event is poised to be the conversation with local artist Anthony Pennock on October 22, where attendees can engage with the artist at the Rio Grande Time sundial at the Downtown Plaza, an official statement from the city touted this as a unique gathering where art aficionados can glean insights from the creative mind whose works contribute to the city's identity as a destination for public art.
