A tragic incident unfolded in Layton, Utah, where a two-year-old girl succumbed to injuries after being struck by a truck in a parking lot. KUTV reported that the child was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition yesterday following the accident that occurred just after 10:00 a.m.

Layton Police Department officials detailed that the girl was playing in the car wash's parking lot near 1500 East and Church Street when she was hit by the 18-year-old truck driver leaving after cleaning his vehicle, who was parked next to the child's mother. According to ABC4, the mother's car was parked adjacent to a lifted truck, and two children were outside the vehicles at the moment of the accident.

In a sad turn when the driver, who has not been named but was identified only as an 18-year-old male, began to drive away and struck the toddler. The young girl, positioned by the front passenger side of the truck, was unfortunately caught in the blind spot.

The vehicle in question was described to have been modified to sit higher than its factory size, which may have contributed to the driver's inability to see the small child. "With the two-year-old girl being the size she is just unfortunately, the driver just simply didn’t see the young girl," Sgt. Moreno, with the Layton Police Department, stated, as detailed by KSLTV. The driver is collaborating with the police in their ongoing investigation and has been described as cooperative.
