A tragedy unfolded in Los Angeles County after a child was found unresponsive in a vehicle, ultimately leading to the arrest of the father. CBS News Los Angeles reported that deputies were summoned to the 3800 Block of Chanson Drive in View Park on Tuesday afternoon, where they found a child who was not breathing. Despite efforts from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department later identified the child's father as 40-year-old Edwin Johnson of View Park, and he has now been arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and child neglect, according to NBC Los Angeles. The bond for Mr. Johnson was set at $25,000, with jail records not immediately indicating an initial court date. It was also noted that it was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney to speak on his behalf.
Authorities have yet to disclose the age of the deceased child and details surrounding the cause of death, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stating that, "This investigation is ongoing, and there is no additional information available at this time." The department encouraged anyone with information to come forward and assist in their investigation efforts.
