Miami Beach's bravest and finest are set to square off in a head-to-head cooking competition for a good cause, as the Gift of Life Marrow Registry gears up to kick off Fire Prevention Week with its first-ever “Battle of the Badges” event on Sunday, Oct. 5. According to an announcement from the city of Miami Beach, the Miami Beach Fire Department firefighters will face off against officers from the Miami Beach Police Department in a cooking competition from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fire Station 2. The event, designed to blend community engagement with a touch of friendly rivalry, will feature internationally acclaimed chef Todd English as one of the judges.
While the burger battle serves as the sizzle, the heart of the event lies in the marrow, with the setup of a swabbing tent where attendees can become bone marrow donors — it’s a simple process, just a quick cheek swab, and it can make all the difference for someone in desperate need of a donor; the Gift of Life Marrow Registry has also arranged for a special moment where a donor will meet their recipient, emphasizing the tangible impact of the registry’s work. Live law enforcement demonstrations, including K-9 and SWAT, as well as the chance to try on firefighter gear and meet fire dogs Salsa and Deco, round out the family-friendly offerings, as detailed by the official announcement.
