The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a chain of tragic events that culminated in the discovery of a body in a local canal, identified as 18-year-old Angelina Plasencia. Deputies initially responded to a missing person call late Sunday night around 11:30 p.m. at NW 72 Avenue and NW 58 Street, according to a press release by the Miami-Dade government.
The initial search was unsuccessful, but detectives continued to painstakingly investigate the next morning when they observed the body in the canal. This discovery came after a series of accidents involving multiple individuals, starting with a vehicle collision at NW 74 Avenue and NW 58 Street. Following this incident, a second crash occurred when the same vehicle was hastily abandoned on SR 826's Northbound ramp at NW 58 Street.
Evidence suggests that after fleeing the second crash site, a friend on a motorcycle picked up the original vehicle's occupants. In a harrowing turn of events, the motorcycle itself was then involved in another accident at the same location of the initial missing person report, NW 72 Avenue and NW 58 Street. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded, transporting three critically injured individuals, while Ms. Plasencia, initially reported missing, was found deceased, as detailed by the same press release.
With the Traffic Homicide detectives now spearheading the investigation, they are currently piecing together these incidents that led to the untimely death of Plasencia. The motive and circumstances surrounding these consecutive accidents remain under scrutiny as officials aim to fully understand the events that transpired on that fateful night.
