One of the airport's TSA checkpoints has temporarily shuttered as part of a larger $9 billion renovation project underway. TSA checkpoint 2 in Concourse D will be out of commission until the end of October, so travelers will have to navigate to checkpoints 1 or 3 instead, airport officials announced. According to a statement obtained by NBC Miami, the closure is necessary for the TSA to install updated screening equipment for carry-on baggage.
Greg Chin, communications director for the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, told The Miami Herald, "Checkpoint 2, which closed Sept. 2 for two months, is near gates D22 to D25." He advised travelers to use other checkpoints, which will allow them to access their gates in Concourse D in the North Terminal. He also remarked that the modernization plan for the airport included this TSA checkpoint improvement and suggested that it's a reminder for travelers to potentially exercise a little more patience when making their way through MIA in the coming years.
