Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced a proposal to allocate a 2.63-acre parcel of land, currently used as an employee parking lot at Miami-Dade College's Wolfson Campus, for the creation of the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library. This news comes via an official statement from the governor's office and would mark the first presidential library in Florida, being offered at a site close to the historic Freedom Tower in downtown Miami. As reported by NBC Miami, Governor DeSantis is expected to introduce this proposal at the next Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund meeting on Sept. 30.
The proposed location near Miami's Freedom Tower, which has significance as a Cuban refugee resettlement center from the 1960s and 70s, is seen as a location that could spur further economic development in South Florida. Referencing the historical relevance and the novel partnership, DeSantis stated, "President Trump has achieved results for the American people and made a lasting impact on our nation’s history," per a statement obtained by The Palm Beach Post. "No state has better delivered the President’s agenda than the Free State of Florida, and we would be honored to house his presidential library here in his home state.”
Support for the governor's initiative is already surfacing from other Florida Cabinet members, including Attorney General James Uthmeier. He indicated his approval on social media, highlighting some of Trump's controversial accomplishments like surviving two assassination attempts and securing the border. "Surviving two assassination attempts, securing the border, and rebuilding our nation’s military are just a few stories this great library will tell," Uthmeier expressed in a post, as covered by an X.com post.
Next week, the Florida Cabinet will vote to dedicate land at Miami Dade College to house the Presidential Library of Donald J. Trump. I’ll be voting yes!

The next steps for this proposal rest with the vote of the Florida Cabinet, which includes, the governor who chairs the board, the attorney general, the chief financial officer and the Commissioner of Agriculture. The decision on whether to dedicate this parcel of land, will determine the future home of the presidential library dedicated to Trump, a polarizing figure whose tenure as president has left an indelible mark on the nation's political landscape. Effusive thanks were also given by the Attorney General to Gov. DeSantis and Miami Dade College President Madeline Pumariega for their roles in pushing forward the project in collaboration with the Trump Library Foundation, indicating a team effort to realize this goal.
