Miami Police have successfully conducted a rescue operation for an injured boater spotted near the Venetian Causeway earlier this month. A video released by the authorities highlights the moments when a drone and officers on the scene worked in tandem to assist a woman who had suffered injuries aboard her boat. WSVN reports that the Drone First Responder unit was sent out to the Bayshore line on September 2, following reports of an injured woman on a local waterway.
Initial efforts of the Marine Patrol and fire rescue units to locate the vessel did not yield results, but the aerial capabilities of the drone swiftly pinpointed its position just north of the causeway. As detailed in NBC Miami's coverage, this was achieved approximately a mile offshore. The drone footage shows a patrol boat approaching the stricken vessel soon after.
Once the officers reached the woman's location, they boarded the boat, and body camera footage showed them administering first aid to the injured party. The swift action and coordination between the drone and marine units effectively ensured that the woman received the necessary immediate care. Both the identity of the woman and the exact extent of her injuries have been disclosed.
