Governor Mike Kehoe is set to sign Missouri's new congressional map, known as the Missouri First Map, into law on Sunday. The map, outlined in House Bill 1, will redefine the state’s congressional districts, as per the Office of Governor Mike Kehoe website.
The governor also plans to allow voters to consider amendments to the state constitution in the next election. The bill was sent to Kehoe’s desk earlier this month after a special session of the One Hundred Third General Assembly, which began on August 29. The session addressed both congressional redistricting and changes to the state’s initiative petition process.
The legislation has generated debate regarding political representation and fairness. The governor’s office states that the reforms aim to give voters the opportunity to participate in constitutional decisions at the ballot box.
