In a tragic turn of events in Mohave County, authorities were recently faced with the grim task of euthanizing a young dog after it was discovered to be under the influence of methamphetamine. According to a FOX 10 Phoenix report, the 2-year-old Pitbull-Terrier mix had suffered internal injuries attributed to drug toxicity. The Mohave County Sheriff's Office disclosed in a Facebook post that the dog's situation was so dire that euthanasia became necessary.
The same dog was brought by its owners to a Fort Mohave veterinarian office on Sept. 3. The two owners, identified as Marcia Peterson, 40, and Trevor Berry, 35, are now facing consequences for their actions. In a subsequent search of the owners' home, deputies reported to have found conditions indicative of neglect, with "animal feces covering the floor of a room," suggesting that the dog had been confined without proper care for an extended period, as mentioned on FOX 10 Phoenix. In what underscores a careless disregard for the well-being of the animal, deputies also discovered drug paraphernalia in plain view. This distressing information was obtained by AZ Family.
As of now, Marcia Peterson has been arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and animal cruelty. Her accomplice, Trevor Berry, is wanted and at large with multiple warrants for his arrest. The Mohave County Sheriff's Office is actively seeking information on Berry's whereabouts, urging anyone with knowledge to come forward and contact them at 928-753-0753, referencing case #25-033151.
While Peterson is already in custody, the search intensifies to locate Berry and to justly hold accountable those responsible for causing profound suffering to an innocent animal. For those with any leads or visual evidence that may aid the ongoing investigation, the sheriff's office has made a call to the public to submit such material, promising to treat it with the urgency it warrants.
