A serious collision occurred Sunday evening in Libertyville as a motorcyclist was left with life-threatening injuries after an incident with an SUV. At around 5:44 p.m., the crash took place near the intersection of North Milwaukee Avenue and Walnut Street, according to NBC Chicago. The motorcycle was reportedly traveling north when it collided with an SUV that was exiting the McDonald's at 1330 N. Milwaukee Ave.
The Libertyville Police Department has responded to the crash and is currently leading the investigation, with the assistance of the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team. The motorcyclist was quickly taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center for treatment. Despite the severity of the incident, the individuals within the SUV managed not to get injured. In order to conduct their investigation, police temporarily shut down a portion of Milwaukee Avenue following the crash.
Details about what specifically led to the crash are still scant. However, the Fox 32 Chicago report notes that the precise cause of the collision remains under active determination by authorities. This unfortunate event has once again highlighted intersections involving bustling street-side fast-food outlets as potential hotspots for traffic altercations, especially for those on two wheels.
Traffic patterns in the area were disrupted while emergency responders and police worked the scene. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and additional information is expected to be made available as the authorities continue to thoroughly look into the matter. Local drivers are reminded to exercise extra caution around areas where driveways meet high-traffic roads, and to always be aware of motorcycles and other smaller vehicles sharing the road.
