Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) is investigating the discovery of a deceased stowaway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. According to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department press release, the body was found inside the landing gear of an American Airlines aircraft that had arrived from Europe. The discovery was made during routine maintenance yesterday early morning, with officials called to the scene shortly after 9 a.m.
CMPD Airport Division officers pronounced the individual dead at the scene. The CMPD Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, with Crime Scene Search dispatched to collect evidence on Hangar Road, according to CMPD’s Public Affairs Office.
Authorities have asked the public to provide any information that may assist the investigation. The CMPD Public Affairs Office stated that updates will be released as new details become available. Detective Murphy has been assigned as the lead investigator.
