On the heels of a recent disturbance, the Yuma Police Department has announced the arrest of one of its own. Officer Gustavo Ramirez was taken into custody for disorderly conduct and harassment related to an off-duty incident on Monday. FOX 10 Phoenix notes that the episode unfolded in a parking lot located at the junction of Avenue C and 24th Street.
Arrested following a call to what was initially characterized as a "suspicious incident," Ramirez's encounter with law enforcement led to his placement on administrative leave, with the specifics of the confrontation remaining undisclosed by Yuma Police. In the wake of these events, Police Chief Thomas Garrity expressed his dismay, stating, "This arrest is deeply disappointing and these allegations go against everything the Yuma Police Department stands for. The officer will have due process but accountability is not optional," as reported by 12News.
Those willing to come forward can reach out to 78-Crime at (928) 782-7463 or contact Yuma police directly at 928-373-4700, echoing the call for community involvement cited by 12News.
