In the quiet hours of a recent Friday night, Interstate 84 in Morrow County became the scene of a tragic collision, as reported by Oregon State Police. At 11:43 p.m., on September 12, 2025, authorities were called to milepost 159, where a two-vehicle crash resulted in one fatality. According to FlashAlert, a Volkswagen Jetta, driven by 38-year-old Austin Scott Yager of Bend, encountered mechanical issues, leaving it immobilized—and ominously dark—on the on-ramp.
The stopped Volkswagen, with its lights failed and invisible in the night, posed a sudden and unforeseen obstacle to Adonis Marcial, a 33-year-old driver from Miami, who at the helm of his Freightliner entered the same ramp and, unable to perceive the stationary vehicle in his path, collided with it but the Volkswagen operator Yager was outside of his car when the crash occurred, Oregon State Police responded to the mishap and the Volkswagen's driver was declared dead at the crash site.
Adonis Marcial, operating the Freightliner at the time of the incident, walked away without injury. The aftermath of the crash did not interfere with the regular flow of highway traffic, and investigations on the site proceeded without impeding travelers.
Different agencies, including the Boardman Police Department, Morrow County Sheriff's Office, Boardman Fire, and ODOT, came to assist OSP managing the scene providing support through the night investigation of the crash where officials have not yet released any further details about the mechanical failure that led to the initial stopping of Yager’s vehicle, investigations into the crash continue with OSP taking the lead to piece together the circumstances of the incident.
