In July, Phoenix police arrested Raymond Hernandez on identity theft charges dating back to 2019. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), Hernandez used his brother’s identity to circumvent a suspended driver’s license. The case was detected by an ADOT detective who launched an investigation.

The detective compared photos on the suspended license with a replacement credential issued under the victim’s name, identifying both as Hernandez. The investigation also revealed three additional misdemeanor warrants for his arrest.

Hernandez was taken into custody during an early morning traffic stop by Phoenix police officers, who confirmed his identity with ADOT detectives. In addition to previous charges, Hernandez now faces charges of computer tampering.

ADOT’s Office of Inspector General continues to investigate vehicle-related fraud and encourages the public to report suspicious activity through its 24-hour Fraud Hotline at 877-712-2370 or by email at [email protected].
