Heads up to all residents and commuters who traverse Hauaala Road, Makamaka Street, and Keapana Road — a planned water service shutdown is going to hit the area tomorrow. This temporary inconvenience is scheduled for Thursday, September 11 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., granted the skies play nice and don't brew up a storm.
The Department of Water (DOW) is gearing up to swap out a pressure reducing valve on a local waterline, hence the scheduled service disruption. In a community bulletin, the DOW handed out some advice on how to prepare, because let's face it, nobody wants to be caught without water in the middle of their daily rituals. Homeowners and businesses located in the impact zone should be sure to store some tap relief to tide them over.
The DOW suggests to "store enough water to meet your needs until water service can be restored," according to their announcement. They also recommend alerting others who might be affected — that's family, friends, folks who are renting from you, and yes, your neighbor who occasionally borrows your hedge trimmer.
If the heart of your home is a boiler with a bad attitude, make sure that bad boy stays full during the downtime. Same goes for any appliance that relies on water to function; you don't want to inadvertently turn on your dishwasher only to be greeted with the sound of empty pipes. "Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that their water heaters do not empty during the shutdown," the DOW warned.
