The Treasure Coast is set to welcome its first new hospital in more than a decade as Florida Coast Medical Center gears up to open on Tuesday, September 9. This $200 million healthcare facility sprawling over 180,000 square feet, situated near Florida's Turnpike and Becker Road, is built strategically in response to serve one of the nation's fastest-growing areas.
Designed to directly address the needs of an expanding Port St. Lucie, which ranks fifth among the fastest-growing U.S. cities with over 20,000 residents, the hospital aims to provide accessible, high-quality care for locals. "It's the community that ultimately carries it forward and will benefit from it in the future," Tyler Sherrill, the hospital's CEO, told CBS12. This focus reflects an investment to not just swiftly adapt, but also to deeply nurture the health and wellbeing of the area's residents.
Florida Coast Medical Center, which falls under the Palm Beach Health Network and is operated by Tenet Healthcare, will feature 54 beds, a full-service 24-hour emergency department, and a special wing allocated for advanced surgical and diagnostic equipment. The hospital is equipped with specialized care in fields such as cardiology, orthopedics, neurology, and robotics, as highlighted in a report by Florida Med Space.
The facility intends to also distinguish itself through its patient-centered design. Rooms come furnished with safety-enhancing features like built-in phone chargers to prevent patient falls. The in-house technology, including green lighting in operating rooms designed to combat surgeon fatigue, and Bluetooth-connected monitoring beds, stands testament to the hospital's commitment to combine comfort with cutting-edge innovation. In addition, the adjacent 40,000-square-foot medical office building is set to further enhance the medical offerings, ensuring a comprehensive range of care services under one umbrella.
As for future growth, Florida Coast Medical Center is already looking ahead. The hospital is a part of a larger, 26.5-acre campus, with plans for additional operating rooms and further development to accommodate the region's healthcare demand. The facility is fully staffed with 330 employees and a robust team of experienced local physicians.
