Tragedy struck in Antioch as two homes were engulfed by fire, displacing two families, and prompting a community-wide reminder about fire safety. According to WKRN, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening when a propane stove mishap led to a full-blown house fire on Windcrest Trail.
The responders faced a water access challenge, owing to vehicles obstructing a nearby hydrant. This situation caused a delay in firefighting efforts, as reported by NewsChannel 5. Nevertheless, the Nashville Fire Department (NFD) successfully extinguished the fires in both houses while minimizing the damage to a third property.
The American Red Cross is now aiding the affected families, both of which lost their homes to the blaze, as outlined by WSMV. Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported. NFD's investigation linked the origin of the fire to cooking with a propane stove inside one of the houses, reiterating that the fire was accidental.
In light of the recent events, NFD took the opportunity to highlight the importance of keeping hydrants and fire lanes clear. "The Nashville Fire Department reminds the community to follow all ordinances regarding fire lanes and hydrants," NFD's spokesperson emphasized, "When emergencies occur, every second counts. Blocking access to hydrants or fire lanes can delay critical response, putting lives, and property at greater risk."
