The Colma Police Department reported an incident from August 17, where a Volkswagen Jetta driver engaged in reckless behavior that escalated into a full-fledged pursuit. According to a social media post by the department, the driver, later identified as Samuel Naranjo, initiated the chase by assaulting another vehicle with a canned beverage before attempting to flee from law enforcement.

The officer on patrol had been near Junipero Serra Boulevard and Colma Boulevard around 8:14 PM when he witnessed the assault. Naranjo, a 29-year-old Vacaville resident, allegedly failed to yield when the officer attempted a traffic stop, leading to a pursuit. The chase had to be abandoned when Naranjo drove onto a sidewalk, showing a willful and wanton disregard for the public's safety, as the Colma Police Department described the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the initial assault with the beverage can.

Following the pursuit, Colma Detectives acquired a seizure order for Naranjo's Jetta, which the San Bruno Police Department eventually spotted at a shopping center last Monday. Assistance from the San Bruno Police helped Colma Officers detain Naranjo. A search incidental to his arrest yielded metal knuckles. Naranjo now faces multiple charges, including felony fleeing and eluding a police officer, vandalism, assault, reckless driving, and possession of metal knuckles. His conduct led to his booking into the San Mateo County Jail, while the Jetta was impounded.

The Colma Police extended gratitude towards the San Bruno Police for their aid in apprehending Naranjo.
