The recent tally for the 2025 Illinois State Fair and Du Quoin State Fair shows that more than 1 million folks decided to take part in these cherished events. Gov. JB Pritzker beamed about the turnout, declaring, "Illinois state fairs are a part of a time-honored tradition for generations of families," in a statement, tying the robust attendance figures to the fairs' lasting appeal, and celebrating attendees from both Illinois and the wider nation.
Notably, the Illinois State Fair hosted in Springfield saw 723,079 guests, making it the second-largest crowd they've ever seen, while the Du Quoin State Fair broke its own record with 282,202 people, surpassing the previous year's 204,004 peak attendance. According to Jerry Costello II, Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, the fairs serve as a hub for folks to come together and revel in the state's rich agricultural legacy, and it looks like his team's push to innovate while maintaining core traditions is a recipe that's resonating with fairgoers, this year the Megan Moroney concert in Springfield brought in a whopping 15,532 attendees, eclipsing the record once held by Lil Wayne.
Highlights from Springfield included soaring sales of Grandstand tickets and various passes - Mega and Jumbo alike - and a surge in camping, with the Governor’s Sale of Champions livestock auction raking in nearly $294,000. The exuberance at the fairs paralleled the findings of an International Association of Fairs and Expos study; the industry brings a hefty $2.7 billion economic impact to the American heartland, and the fairs draw more visitors than both Major League Baseball and the NFL combined.
Over at Du Quoin, Grandstand events boasted an impressive lineup from Little River Band to TESLA to Tucker Wetmore, amping up ticket sales, and the rides, particularly the Mardi Gras Glass House and the Giant Wheel, tallied 245,000 spins, and fun-seekers set up camp in droves with 625 permits issued, the fairgrounds was abuzz with energy from every corner as every slot filled up. Adding to the economic buzz was the Illinois Product Expo, which had its kickoff in 2022 and this year surpassed $25,000 in sales of local products, up $5,000 from the year before, showing that people are not just spending their time but also their money on local wares.
With these fairs not only contributing to family memories but also making a substantial economic footprint, it's never too soon to plan for next year's festivities. The Illinois State Fair will run from August 13 to 23, 2026, followed by the Du Quoin State Fair from August 28 to September 7, offering another chance for fairgoers to partake in this enduring slice of Americana.
