Residents of Reno can now enjoy a more active lifestyle with the recent addition of two new Fitness Courts® at Brodhead and Damonte Ranch Parks. These outdoor circuit training venues offer a variety of workout stations designed to provide a full-body experience using body weight as resistance. With seven specific stations such as core, squat, and push exercises, they cater to users of all fitness levels.

The collaboration between the City of Reno, Renown Health, and the National Fitness Campaign has led to these fitness courts being freely accessible to the public. An official ribbon-cutting event is set for tomorrow at Brodhead Park where attendees will witness a fitness demonstration showdown between teams from Renown Regional Medical Center's intensive care units and emergency room, according to the City of Reno's announcement.

Funding for these facilities has been secured through combined efforts; the National Fitness Campaign’s 2024 Renown Health Nevada Campaign Grant provided $120,000, and the City council approved an additional $294,000 from Residential Construction Tax. "Proximity to exercise opportunities, such as parks and recreation facilities, has been linked to an increase in physical activity among residents," highlighted Brian Erling, MD, MBA, President & CEO of Renown Health, in a statement released by the City of Reno. The health benefits he cites include weight control and improved mental health – a testament to the significance of bringing such resources to the community.

For those looking to integrate these courts into their routine, free workout programming is available via a QR code scan right at the courts, which will guide them through each workout station. The new Fitness Courts® at Brodhead and Damonte Ranch Parks are the eighth and ninth in the state, with two more underway in Fallon and West Wendover, showcasing Renown Health's ongoing commitment to enhancing community fitness resources.

And there's more for the Reno community to get excited about – a free Community Fitness Day at Damonte Ranch Park on Saturday. Sponsored by Ward 6 Councilmember Brandi Anderson, the day will start at 9 a.m. featuring paletas, face painting, and a chance to learn how to use the new fitness court. “I’m looking forward to welcoming everyone of all ages and abilities to this free Community Fitness Day on September 27,” Anderson expressed with enthusiasm, as noted by the city's official website.
