Officers responded to the area at approximately 5:42 p.m., located the toddler, comforted the child, and identified a nearby family member before reuniting the toddler with relatives.
In an official statement, the North Las Vegas Police Department referred to the toddler as a “little escape artist,” describing a scare that unfolded in dangerously hot late-afternoon conditions, according to the North Las Vegas Police Department. FOX5 Las Vegas, which reported the rescue, noted that police urged parents and caregivers to double-check locks, secure gates, and remain vigilant, warning that extreme summer heat can turn deadly for small children within minutes, per FOX5 Vegas.
The rescue came amid a punishing late-summer heat wave across the Las Vegas Valley. Regional temperatures had been surging between 105 and 110 degrees in early September, prompting Extreme Heat Warnings from the National Weather Service, as Hoodline reported in its coverage of the Thursday warning.

Medical experts say young children are especially vulnerable in extreme heat. Extreme heat can cause heat exhaustion, heat cramps, and life-threatening heat stroke in babies and toddlers.
