Yesterday marked National Police K9 Day, a day dedicated to the hardworking dogs and their handlers within law enforcement. The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office took to social media to highlight the importance of this day, recognizing the service these K9 units provide in their daily duties—Sheriff’s K9 Sgt. David Ashburn emphasized the significant contribution of these animals to the safety and security of communities, capturing suspects, sniffing out illegal substances, searching for lost persons, and more.
According to the sheriff's office post, while the day celebrates the feats of the K9s actively serving, it's also a solemn reminder for the canine officers who have fallen in the line of duty. "These loyal partners serve alongside officers every day, tracking suspects, detecting narcotics and explosives, locating missing persons and protecting their communities,” said Sgt. Ashburn.
"Their courage is unmatched and their loyalty is unwavering," Sgt. Ashburn explained, as per the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office. Sgt. Ashburn added, "Please join the Sheriff’s Office in honoring the dedicated K9s, especially today."
