The efforts of the San Diego Sheriff's Search and Rescue team, along with the San Diego Police Department, culminated in the safe recovery of a 77-year-old man missing since September 14. As reported by the San Diego Sheriff's Department, the man, described as having memory issues, was last spotted in the Mission Valley area.

Launching a search operation last Thursday, after a request from the San Diego PD, over two dozen Sheriff's SAR Volunteers set out to locate the elderly man. A post from the Sheriff's office detailed that the missing individual was found in a riverbed just after 1:00 PM by SDPD Officer Alec Flores and SAR volunteers Nelson Tum and Russ Machado. Last seen wearing blue jeans and a gray sweater at his disappearance, the weather had turned cold, and fears for his well-being had considerably mounted.

The successful search drew upon the resources and commitment of the local law enforcement community. "The San Diego County Sheriff's Office would like to thank all our SAR Volunteers for their tireless work in helping find the missing man. We also appreciate the support of our friends at the San Diego Police Department," the Sheriff's official social media post read. Not only was the man located, but he was also promptly transported to a hospital to receive necessary medical attention.
