A 19-year-old San Jose man found himself in cuffs last Saturday after a solo vehicle accident in Colma, police said. According to the Colma Police Department, an officer came across a Dodge truck parked in the southbound stalls of Hillside Boulevard with its hazards flickering in the night and front-end damage suggestive of a recent collision.
It was just after 1:30 AM when the unidentified officer noticed the vehicle, which was heading northbound. The driver, Alex Martinezmejia, reportedly showed the tell-tale signs of intoxication: the scent of alcohol and behaviors characteristic of one under its influence.
"The Officer contacted the male driver and learned the vehicle had been involved in a solo vehicle accident. Upon contact with the driver, the Officer detected the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person and he displayed the objective signs of being under the influence of an alcoholic beverage," the Colma Police Department described the scene in a social media post.
Martinezmejia, under the legal age for drinking, was arrested for DUI and for driving while under the influence of alcohol under the age of 21. He has since been booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
