In a move to address the increasing need for medical emergency services, Scottsdale Fire Department is set to enhance their operations with the construction of a new ambulance annex situated just north of the existent Fire Station 601 at 1901 N. Miller Road. This development comes as a part of a broader strategy to bolster the publicly-run ambulance program, confirmed by Scottsdale Fire Chief Tom Shannon, who emphasized the importance of this expansion for both emergency and non-emergency situations.
Citizens interested in learning about the project specifics have the opportunity to attend an open house event that the city has scheduled for 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sept. 15, where no formal presentation will be held—but instead, residents can come and go as they please throughout the duration, reviewing project plans and having queries answered at the Eldorado Community Center, located at 2311 N. Miller Road. The annex itself will function largely as a living and work space for ambulance staff, is set to provide not only essential indoor facilities like kitchens and offices but it will also house three vehicle bays for ambulances and a supervisor vehicle.
Considerate of the local community character, the project plan involves aesthetic additions such as landscaping, on-site parking, and perimeter security fencing, aimed to fit seamlessly into the neighborhood's fabric. The decision to transition to city-operated ambulance services in 2024 necessitated infrastructure that can support the additional staff and vehicles needed to assure uninterrupted service, especially as demands grow along with Scottsdale's population.
Fire Station 601, which has been serving approximately 37,500 local residents and visitors since its establishment in 2011, will be the adjoining site for the new annex. For those who seek further information on this expansion, they can find additional details through the official Scottsdale city website.
