Commuters in South Florida, prepare for detours. The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) has announced that Sistrunk Boulevard will be closed at the rail tracks just west of I-95 - this for necessary crossing rehabilitation work. According to the City of Fort Lauderdale's press release, the closure is set from September 26, at 9:00 p.m., stretching through till September 30, at 4:00 a.m. Those planning on traveling at these times should plan for an altered route.
Driving through the area continuously, 24 hours a day, the closure will disrupt traffic, potentially causing significant delays. Work on the tracks may extend into October 1, if weather kicks up a fuss or other unforeseeable events occur, per the City of Fort Lauderdale's official announcement. With the safety and quality of rides in mind, as well as the resiliency of the tracks, the scheduled works will include rail repairs and track rehabilitation, along with a crossing surface replacement.
For those needing to traverse the area, detour routes will guide the displaced. Eastbound motorists are to be rerouted via NW 31st Ave, also known as Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, to Sunrise Blvd or Broward Blvd. Their westbound counterparts will detour back via NW 9th Ave or Powerline Rd to either Sunrise Blvd or Broward Blvd. These alterations in the usual flow will steer traffic during the roadworks.
For further information or if you're seeking clarity on the disruptions, SFRTA encourages getting in touch. Assistance is available at 1-800-TRI-RAIL (874-7245).
