Shoe giant Skechers has officially made a footprint in the U.S. with its latest performance-focused retail addition. The brand chose Miami as the home of the first American Skechers Performance store, which opened its doors at the Dolphin Mall. According to a report from Business Wire, the sprawling 26,017-square-foot space is designed to give shoppers an immersive experience with sections dedicated to various sports such as basketball, running, soccer, and golf, alongside the inclusion of the company's innovative footwear like the Skechers Hands Free Slip-ins®.
President of Skechers Michael Greenberg conveyed excitement about the evolution of Skechers' retail presence, stating, “The Skechers Performance retail era is in full force: from our first flagship store earlier this year in Canada to two new locations in Europe this spring and our recently opened destination in Chile, all have shown how enthusiastic our consumers are for our Comfort that Performs.” This statement was obtained by Chain Store Age. The Miami location also aims to quickly change the shopping game with a variety of technologically advanced footwear and gear catering to both professional athletes and casual enthusiasts alike.
The store celebrated its grand opening last Friday with a guest appearance from Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Julius Randle, who is also part of the Skechers roster of sponsored athletes. Shoppers at the event could experience the store's sport-specific areas, which include a running racetrack and courts for basketball and pickleball, with each zone accented by digital LED screens. Moreover, the storefront selfie spots are designed with Miami-centric themes, presumably to blend retail with social engagement.
With the Dolphin Mall outlet, Skechers has established its fifth such performance-centric store worldwide, following openings in Canada, Belgium, Germany, and Chile. Greenberg highlighted that this largest factory mall location showcases the brand’s leading technologies to the 36 million people who visit one of the country's busiest tourist malls annually. This initiative appears to firmly stand on the goal to radically improve the consumer's in-store experience and was outlined in a release shared by Business Wire. The performance-oriented products range from technical footwear to Skechers' signature apparel and are now accessible through various Skechers retail stores, online, as well as through department and specialty stores globally.
